As part of the Rays of Light exhibition designed for Manufacture Prelle, Pierre Gonalons called on Passementerie Verrier to develop several custom trimmings to complement the featured textiles: braids, tiebacks, and gimps.

A braid and tieback for the drapes
To accompany one of the grand drapes, Passementerie Verrier wove a braid conceived as a natural extension of the Manufacture’s fabric, accompanied by a double-tassel tieback. To harmonize with the fabric’s subtle tones, several shades of yarn were curated and blended on the loom. Their combination yields an entirely new color, developed specifically for the project. This artistry carries through to the tieback: the wooden tassel molds were hand-wrapped, and the long cut fringe trimmed by hand with meticulous precision for a perfectly uniform drop. Beads strung directly onto select strands add subtle metallic highlights to the overall design.
Sun Rays
For Sun Rays, the centerpiece of Rays of Light, the studio developed an entirely original second braid. Rather than simply replicating the fabric’s pattern at a smaller scale, the goal was to invent a new woven graphic structure inspired by Pierre Gonalons’ radiating motif. Here again, the selection of threads proved vital: multiple shades were combined so the woven braid echoes the palette of the textile and integrates seamlessly into the interior. Because true refinement lives in the details, a custom scroll gimp borders the seat skirts of a pair of armchairs upholstered in matching shades of Sun Rays.
Our warmest thanks to Pierre Gonalons for his continued trust, and for championing passementerie in resolutely contemporary design.
